The McDonald Forest 50K is celebrating its 30th annual running as one of Oregon’s oldest and most cherished ultrarunning events, set amidst the scenic trails of Oregon State University’s McDonald Forest. Renowned for its smooth, well-maintained singletrack paths and a uniquely exhilarating pine needle cushioned downhill finish, this race offers breathtaking views of the Cascades, Coast Range, and Soap Creek Valley, with vibrant springtime blooms including glowing dogwoods and delicate calypso orchids. Returning in 2026 with expanded singletrack sections and a challenging route to McCulloch Peak, the forest’s highest point, the event features a competitive prize purse of at least $400 and supports local community initiatives through the Corvallis Area Trailrunners charity. The race begins at 8:00 am at the OSU Forestry Cabin, with an optional early start at 7:00 am, and is limited to 300 participants. Registration includes access to four well-stocked aid stations, post-race refreshments, and premium swag including Injinji socks and a Territory Run hoodie and shirt, with early registration ensuring guaranteed gear. Committed to sustainability, the 2026 race will be cup-free, and the Trail Mix Fund offers fee waivers to BIPOC and LGBTQ+ runners to promote inclusivity. As part of the Corvallis Trail Series, the McDonald Forest 50K promises an unforgettable ultra experience blending natural beauty, community spirit, and top-tier trail running.
